Corneal
Transplant - Ophthalmologists perform over 40,000
corneal transplants each year in the United States. Of all transplant
surgery done today--including hearts, lungs and kidneys--corneal transplants
are by far the most common and successful.
Crossed Eyes
- A complete eye exam determines the best vision, the ability for the
eyes to move completely, and no double vision. It is important to remember
that crossed eyes can be corrected at basically any age.
Crystalens
- Crystalens™ is engineered with a hinge designed to allow the optic,
or part of the IOL that you see through, to move back and forth as you
constantly change focus on images around you.
With crystalens™ your vision will not only be brighter, but you may be free of those things that made you look or feel older.

Post-Op Care
Diabetic Eye Disease
- With laser treatment, the patient may find that vision is improved.
However, in cases where improvement does not occur, laser treatment is
important to preventing further vision loss.
Eyelid Surgery
- Surgery is available that offers more of a permanent relief to vision
by lifting droopy eyelids. The lid surgery is done using local anesthesia
and is performed in an outpatient surgery setting.
Glaucoma
- Because glaucoma does not cause symptoms in most cases, everyone over
40 should have an annual eye examination, including a measurement of intraocular
pressure.
LASIK
- LASIK is a new technique for reshaping the surface of the cornea
to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Macular
Degeneration - The small area in the retina at the
back of the eye that allows you to see fine details clearly and perform
activities such as reading and driving. The most important thing you can
do to protect your vision is to have your eyes examined by an eye care
professional at least once a year, particularly if you are age 60 or older.
Retinal and Vitreous Disorders
- Preventive measures are 95 percent effective; however, retinal tears
may be successfully treated by laser or cryosurgery which are both done
on an outpatient basis.
