ReSTOR ® Lens
Today's cataract patients have choices unheard of just a few short years ago. No longer is it necessary to sacrifice near and intermediate vision when a cataract clouds the lens. Now there is a choice.
The AcrySof® ReSTOR ® is a breakthrough lens that uses apodized diffractive technology to give patients a full range of vision. The ReSTOR ® lens basically has the bifocal and trifocal built in, with a series of graduated correction allowing focus at near, intermediate, and distance. Many patients are no longer dependent on reading glasses after they receive the ReSTOR ® lens.
The ReSTOR ® lens is made of the same acrylic material as standard intraocular implants, which have been safely used in more than 25 million eyes since 1991. In addition to providing less dependency on reading glasses, the lens filters both ultraviolet light and blue light, while preserving color perception.
The ReSTOR ® IOL received FDA approval on March 21, 2005. It is approved for use by Medicare patients.
For those who have been diagnosed with cataracts, the ReSTOR ® lens is an option which may allow them to see those tasks which are important to them, with less dependence on reading glasses.
