NearVision CK
Are you:
- Over the age of 50
- Have had great vision all of your life
- Hate your reading glasses
The procedure takes approximately 5 minutes and is done with
NO NEEDLES, NO SHOTS, NO LASERS AND NO CUTTING.
NearVision CK® can change how the eye focuses light by reshaping
the surface of your eye (cornea). When the shape is changed, light can
be refocused on the correct part of your eye (retina). NearVision
CK® uses the controlled release of RF energy to heat and
shrink corneal tissue. This will steepen the cornea and allow light to
properly focus on the retina again.
Presbyopia, the type of farsightedness that occurs during middle age,
begins to take effect on people in their early forties and affects everyone
by the age of fifty. Gradually newsprint becomes more difficult to read
at close distances, as the words appear smaller.
CK has a great safety record, far surpassing even the
stringent guidelines of the FDA for vision correction procedures.

What should I expect during my exam?
Before your procedure, Dr. McMahan will determine your treatment needed
to correct your vision. Your eyes will be dilated for a complete comprehensive
examination of your eye. Dr. McMahan will discuss benefits and possible
risk involved.
Dr. McMahan will map out the front surface of the cornea to determine
its current and individual shape. This will be used to plan the procedure
and measure results.
What should you expect during a NearVision CK® procedure?
- Apply numbing (anesthetic) eye drops
- Imprint treatment pattern with rinse-away dye
- Use Keratoplast Tip to apply RF energy
After the procedure, you may want to wear dark glasses. We suggest that
you go home and relax for the rest of the day. For the first couple of
days, you may encounter some scratchiness in your eyes, or excessive watering.
This rapidly improves and medications can be taken to relieve any discomfort.
Normal activities are generally resumed within a day or two. While many
patients see improvement in their near vision immediately after the procedure,
it could take a few weeks to several months for the results to be fully
realized. As with other vision correction procedures, you may experience
some discomfort and light sensitivity (glare or halos) may follow for
a few days.
Realistic Expectations:
The decision to have NearVision CK® is an important one that only
you can make. The goal of any refractive surgical procedure is to reduce
your dependence on corrective lenses. However, we cannot guarantee you
will have the results you desire.
Serious complications with NearVision CK® are extremely rare. NearVision
CK® is a safe and effective procedure, but like any medical procedure,
it does have some risks. After a thorough eye exam, you and your doctor
will determine if NearVision CK® is an option for you. Be sure you
have all your questions answered to your satisfaction.
