Special Surgeons Make A Difference
Southern Eye Center’s continues their annual tradition of goodwill with Make A Difference Day by performing free cataract removal for disadvantaged patients. Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Dr. Cameron Griffith (pictured) will use his surgical talents to help those less fortunate.

“With the assistance of area optometrists and donated supplies, Southern Eye Center’s surgeons offer free procedures to patients who cannot afford treatment and have no medical insurance,” said Angel Misenhelter, Practice Development Director.

“We’ve received national recognition for our community services, which is an extraordinary achievement, but nothing is better than the gratitude we receive from our patients,” she added.

It’s nearly time for Southern Eye Center’s free eye surgery. Our annual Make A Difference Day program is Tuesday, October 21, 2008.

With your help, for the past 15 years, Southern Eye Center’s surgeons have been able to offer this program to individuals without insurance and not eligible for assistance programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Vocational Rehabilitation. This year we will continue our tradition.

Qualifying patients should meet the following criteria:

Have visual acuity of 20/50 or worse in the better eye unless the vision in theworse eye is less than 20/200,

Example:

a. 20/40 in each eye would not qualify.
b. 20/40 in on eye and 20/80 in the other would not qualify.
c. 20/40 in one eye and 20/200 in the other would qualify.

Not be covered by insurance or not be eligible for Medicare, Medicaid
Have no means of payment or indigent.
Have a recent exam with you (within the past six months).

You may fax the application with your patient’s last exam (please see requirements above) to Catherine Sanford at 601-264-5930 no later than Friday, October 10, 2008.

Should the patient meet the visual criteria, they will then be evaluated by our financial counselor. If approved, the patient will be contacted and scheduled for the Make A Difference Day program.
